Blair M. Minton
President, Journey Senior Living

As founder and president of Journey Senior Living, Mr. Minton has over 40 years of experience in all phases of the health care industry, including 35 years of experience in administration, financing, planning and development of communities and services.
Prior to founding Journey Senior Living, Mr. Minton served as Vice President of a national retirement housing management and consulting company. He was the founder and president of BMA Management, Ltd. and helped develop over 40 affordable assisted living communities throughout Illinois.
Journey Senior Living previously Blair Minton & Associates was formed in 1989 to assist hospitals in building for-profit businesses. Between 1990 and 2000, Blair Minton and Associates (as a management/development consultant) helped to develop over 400,000 square feet of medical office space for several small to medium sized hospitals in Illinois. Included were a cancer treatment center, outpatient kidney dialysis unit, inpatient rehab and traditional medical office space. Journey Senior Living also consulted in the development of independent living, assisted living, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities for several other hospitals and non-profit corporations.
Mr. Minton retired from BMA Management in 2011 and founded Journey Senior Living to build and manage market rate assisted living communities throughout the Midwest. In fact, RPM stands for respect, passion and mission… the three most important ideas we bring to management of senior communities.
In 2010, Blair was elected to the Board of Directors of the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA), the largest national organization exclusively dedicated to professional operated assisted living communities. Mr. Minton proudly continues to serve on the ALFA Board.
A registered nurse, Mr. Minton has practiced nursing in both nursing homes and hospitals. He holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing from Kaskaskia Junior College in Centralia, Illinois.
Craig L. Ater
CFO, Journey Senior Living
As one of the founders and CFO of Journey Senior Living, Mr. Ater has over 25 years of experience in all phases of finance within the health care industry, including 19 years as CFO for Heritage Enterprises in Bloomington, IL.
Mr. Ater graduated from Millikin University with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and received his CPA certificate in 1984.
Mr. Ater served with Peat, Marwick as a CPA from 1984 to 1989 as a senior accountant. He worked for Frost & Company in Little Rock from 1989 to 1991 as an audit manager.
Mr. Ater joined Heritage Enterprises as Controller in 1991 when Heritage had 13 properties with 1,000 employees. He became CFO in 1994 and served in that position until 2013. During his tenure with Heritage, the company grew from 13 properties to 42 properties including an institutional pharmacy. They grew to approximately 4500 employees with total revenues of over 200 million dollars per year.
Mr. Ater’s responsibilities included oversight of accounting, accounts receivable/billing and accounts payable. He was also in charge of cost reporting and managed the banking relationships for all properties. He negotiated loans and deposit accounts, performed acquisition analysis and negotiations for the acquired properties.
Mr. Ater has served on the Governing Board for the Center for Human Services, Bloomington, Illinois as Treasurer and President. In addition, Mr. Ater is a member of the American Institute and Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants.
