Tara Holmes

Executive Director

Tara Holmes joins Journey Senior Living as Executive Director of its Merrillville, Indiana location. With over 10 years of knowledge and experience in long-term care, elder care, case management, Medicare and Medicaid, elder abuse and residents’ rights.

Prior to joining JSL, Tara was the Administrator for Infinity Health Care Management and Petersen Healthcare Companies in Illinois where she managed a 100-bed and 140-bed skilled facilities respectively. She developed case management services to large senior independent housing units managed by Kohner Properties in St. Louis and Odd Fellow Rebekah in Mattoon, IL.

From 1998 through 2005, Tara began her career as a pharmaceutical chemist in St. Louis, Missouri starting out in Quality Assurance/Quality Control with KV Pharmaceutical and working up to a contract research assistant for where she assisted the research scientist with a new patent for a herbicide at The Monsanto Companies in St. Louis, MO. In 2004, Tara would again become a part of the contract team that would help bring the first non-additive sleep aid Lunesta (by Sepracor) to market.

Tara has great enthusiasm and enjoys volunteering within the communities in which she lives. She has been a volunteer with: State of Missouri Long-Term Care as an Ombudsman, Operation Food Search, St Louis Public library docent, a meals-on-wheels volunteer, and a summer teaching assistant for HUD-housing. She was awarded with an Alderman Resolution in 2006 for her dedication the St. Louis City community. As a new resident of Indiana she plans to dedicate herself and inspire her team to commit themselves to a vision of: “A better community leads to a better world.”

Currently Tara is a resident of Indiana. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé Joseph, her dog Jack, being outdoors, walking, running, traveling and reading.

Tara holds a Masters of Arts in Gerontology from Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Missouri and Bachelor Science in Chemistry from Maryville University (St. Louis, Missouri).

Marketing Director

Laura has worked in the healthcare industry for 10 years. Before joining Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, she was the Assistant Director of Marketing at Hartsfield Village in Munster, Indiana.  Laura also worked as the Administrative Assistant for Case Management and Social Services at Community Health Systems.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As the Marketing Director, it is my responsibility to listen attentively and engage openly with families in need. People need trustworthy answers to troubling questions, it is my job to find and provide them with the best possible care.

Journey Senior Living suits me because I am committed on improving the experience people endure when choosing a senior living community. My knowledge and experience from various settings– hospital, skilled nursing facility and assisted living community all have helped shaped my perspective. My passion is tied to integrity, compassion, honesty and caring for my residents and their families. The best feeling is when a family releases that sigh of relief knowing their loved one found their new home.

HOBBIES
I enjoy spending time with my husband, three children and two puppies. I am passionate about running, completing  7 marathons.  Love volunteering at my church.  In my leisure time, you will likely find me running, teaching yoga, traveling, or singing.

As the Life Enrichment Director at Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, Tracie has over 25 years of experience in all phases of customer service, including 10 years as a (NRO) New Restaurant Opener, Lead Bartender, Head Trainer and Manager in the hospitality industry, 5 years as a customer service professional in many call centers, and 10 years as a customer service professional in hospitality services.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
My belief is that residents must be engaged and feel excited about daily life activities. We work hard to create a home where they can be comfortable being themselves, while meeting new friends, and exploring life’s simple pleasures. Laugh, Love, Pray … repeat!

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My passion is taking care of people and making them laugh. Motivating and encouraging people to do whatever makes them happy and brings them joy is what fuels me!

HOBBIES
I love my three amazing children and three beautiful grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with my family daily. She loves God and going to church where she is a member of her praise dance ministry. She also loves dancing, singing, baking, decorating, shopping and conversations. I also volunteer at my local woman’s domestic violence shelter and the Sojourner Truth House where I was once was a client. “Giving back and helping someone who is going through the same things as you have, is the best gift that you can give.”

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As Business Office Manager for Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, I handle accounts receivables, billing, collections, and payroll. M day is always filled with additional helpful activities for residents, family members and assisting staff.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My previous experience as an owner and operator of a Preschool for 7 years allowed me to equip my skill set with several areas of expertise. Prior to preschool, I worked in internal medicine which is when I transitioned to the mid-west, taking a position for internal medicine in Chicago. I consider Indiana my home due to my strong connection to the community.

Hobbies
I enjoy spending her time with my three children, two dogs and two cats. In my leisure time I enjoy spending time by the lake, shopping, walking the dogs. I also enjoy volunteering with my church, and working with the local Boy Scouts for 7 years as committee chairman for our local pack.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As the director of three departments at Journey Senior Living, and a total of 40(+) years in all phases of maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry, it is my responsibility to keep residents and staff safe and secure.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My experience ranges from the Hotel Industry to the Senior Care Industry and also includes many Retirement Facilities and health care. I manage everything from HVAC to electrical, plumbing, drywall and so much more. The work is in my wheelhouse.

HOBBIES
Spending time with my wonderful wife of 36 years, and hanging out on our farm in Merrillville, Indiana.
