Tara Holmes

Executive Director

Tara Holmes is executive director at Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, Indiana and has over 10 years of knowledge and experience in long-term care, elder care, case management, Medicare and Medicaid, elder abuse and residents’ rights.

Prior to joining Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, Tara was the Administrator for Infinity Health Care Management and Petersen Healthcare Companies in Illinois where she managed a 100-bed and 140-bed skilled facilities respectively. She developed case management services to large senior independent housing units managed by Kohner Properties in St. Louis and Odd Fellow Rebekah in Mattoon, IL.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As the Executive Director, my mission is to work with my team and create an environment the exceeds expectations of our residents and families. I love working closely with my team comprised of nursing, admissions, life enrichment, dietary, janitorial and of our executive board to carry out our mission of safety, security, love, compassion and dignity.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My specialty is in advocating and caring for elders. I have been passionate about helping and volunteering with senior since a young age, initially through my church. We visited nursing homes with the church and I immediately saw a need to care and console for these amazing seniors, who often did not get many visitors. I wanted to be their visitor and protector. My love for them grows each and every day.

MY HOBBIES
I enjoy spending time with my fiancé Joseph, my dog Jack, and staying active outdoors walking, running, traveling and reading. I also enjoy volunteering within my community.

Marketing Director

Laura has worked in the healthcare industry for 10 years. Before joining Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, she was the Assistant Director of Marketing at Hartsfield Village in Munster, Indiana.  Laura also worked as the Administrative Assistant for Case Management and Social Services at Community Health Systems.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As the Marketing Director, it is my responsibility to listen attentively and engage openly with families in need. People need trustworthy answers to troubling questions, it is my job to find and provide them with the best possible care.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
Journey Senior Living suits me because I am committed on improving the experience people endure when choosing a senior living community. My knowledge and experience from various settings– hospital, skilled nursing facility and assisted living community all have helped shaped my perspective. My passion is tied to integrity, compassion, honesty and caring for my residents and their families. The best feeling is when a family releases that sigh of relief knowing their loved one found their new home.

MY HOBBIES
I enjoy spending time with my husband, three children and two puppies. I am passionate about running, completing  7 marathons.  Love volunteering at my church.  In my leisure time, you will likely find me running, teaching yoga, traveling, or singing.

Life Enrichment Director

As the Life Enrichment Director at Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, Tracie has over 25 years of experience in all phases of customer service, including 10 years as a (NRO) New Restaurant Opener, Lead Bartender, Head Trainer and Manager in the hospitality industry, 5 years as a customer service professional in many call centers, and 10 years as a customer service professional in hospitality services.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
My belief is that residents must be engaged and feel excited about daily life activities. We work hard to create a home where they can be comfortable being themselves, while meeting new friends, and exploring life’s simple pleasures. Laugh, Love, Pray … repeat!

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My passion is taking care of people and making them laugh. Motivating and encouraging people to do whatever makes them happy and brings them joy is what fuels me!

MY HOBBIES
I love my three amazing children and three beautiful grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with my family daily. She loves God and going to church where she is a member of her praise dance ministry. She also loves dancing, singing, baking, decorating, shopping and conversations. I also volunteer at my local woman’s domestic violence shelter and the Sojourner Truth House where I was once was a client. “Giving back and helping someone who is going through the same things as you have, is the best gift that you can give.”

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As Business Office Manager for Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, I handle accounts receivables, billing, collections, and payroll. M day is always filled with additional helpful activities for residents, family members and assisting staff.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My previous experience as an owner and operator of a Preschool for 7 years allowed me to equip my skill set with several areas of expertise. Prior to preschool, I worked in internal medicine which is when I transitioned to the mid-west, taking a position for internal medicine in Chicago. I consider Indiana my home due to my strong connection to the community.

MY HOBBIES
I enjoy spending her time with my three children, two dogs and two cats. In my leisure time I enjoy spending time by the lake, shopping, walking the dogs. I also enjoy volunteering with my church, and working with the local Boy Scouts for 7 years as committee chairman for our local pack.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As the Director of Nursing at Journey Senior Living of Merrillville, Rachel has 14 years of experience in healthcare in a variety of areas. Rachel has worked in Patient Accounts, Medicaid/Medicare billing, Student Health, General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Memory Care.

As the Director of Nursing I am responsible for maintaining the quality of care provided to our residents. I work very closely with the nursing staff and management team to ensure that we exceed established goals and live up to the words of our mission statement. I work diligently to create a collaborative and efficient workplace with attention to quality standards.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
As a nurse I have worked with an array of different resident populations, however Geriatrics and Memory Care is where my heart is. I am passionate about the role I play in the lives of our residents and their families. Our team aims to tailor care to each residents unique needs and provide peace of mind and security to the families. Having a family member say to me that God sent them here to our facility to be cared for by our team of angels makes the hard work that we do all worth it.

MY HOBBIES
I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 4 children. Family game night is a Friday favorite at my house. I love to travel as often as possible.

WHAT IS MY ROLE AT JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING?
As the director of three departments at Journey Senior Living, and a total of 40(+) years in all phases of maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry, it is my responsibility to keep residents and staff safe and secure.

WHY IS JOURNEY SENIOR LIVING THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
My experience ranges from the Hotel Industry to the Senior Care Industry and also includes many Retirement Facilities and health care. I manage everything from HVAC to electrical, plumbing, drywall and so much more. The work is in my wheelhouse.

MY HOBBIES
Spending time with my wonderful wife of 36 years, and hanging out on our farm in Merrillville, Indiana.
